Meet our Kirintec Intern Robin Harris

We put the spotlight today on Kirintec intern Robin!

We ask lovely intern Robin some fact finding questions…and some fun ones too. Just in case you are wondering, there is no YouTube link (yet), showcasing the answers to the last two questions!

Talk us through a typical day

It involves programming – lots of programming. I work primarily with our Principal Software Engineer, building software. But this means I could be programming, or testing the programming or even soldering together devices that are needed for this testing.

What made you consider Engineering?

I just graduated with a Mathematics degree and to be frank I was not sure what I wanted to do next in the big scary world. Engineering interested me as it is a chance to see and make mathematics and the real world to come together.

What has been your favourite thing you’ve learned so far?

I can’t really say what my favourite is – if I’d have to, it would be soldering as it is so different to everything else I’m learning; I really enjoyed getting to venture into the hardware universe and see the mechanics that the software will be interacting with.

If you could have a super power what would it be?

Well if I can’t be a wizard (although I am a ‘mathemagician’), teleportation.

You are gifted a plane ticket of your choice, where would you fly to?

Iceland to see the Northern lights.

What do you do when you are not in the office?

I am probably either knitting, cooking, reading, walking or dancing. I’ve recently taken up bell-ringing too.

Some of our Engineer’s play a ‘song of the day’ in their lab… what was your first choice?

Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting by Carl Douglas.

Tell us something no-one in the team knows about you

I can kick myself in the face!
