Principal Hardware Engineer (High-Speed Digital)

Kirintec are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic and experienced Principal Hardware Engineer to join the R&D team at their premises in Ross-On-Wye.

The ideal candidate will have experience in high-speed digital design including design of controlled impedance multi-layer PCBs using high-speed technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express, JESD204B, low-speed technologies such as SPI and I2C and high-speed analogue/digital interfacing components (ADCs and DACs). A keen attention to detail is essential.

The candidate must be able to take PCB design from concept to completion including requirements gathering (capability to work using agile or formal methods), concept design (generating block diagrams, power budgets and conducting design analyses), detailed design (schematic entry, executing or directing layout), management of Contract Electronic Manufacturers, design testing and system integration.

The role will include the management of the PCB database libraries; adding new components (creating and/or reviewing schematic symbols, creating and/or reviewing PCB footprints, adding component details to the database). Basic working knowledge of databases (MySQL) and server/client-side scripting (PHP/JavaScript) is not essential but would be another advantage.

Experience in Altium Designer would be advantageous but this may be learnt on-the-job if experience has been gained using other packages. Experience in FPGA design and simulation in VHDL would be a distinct advantage. Capability to write software for use in testing and integrating digital hardware designs would also be an advantage.

The candidate must be capable of managing their own work whilst being a member of a small dynamic team. Reporting to the R&D Director, you will work closely with our software, RF, PCB layout and mechanical engineers to both specify and develop new products and to maintain existing products.

This is a hands-on design role in a small team which will also include the mentorship of less experienced engineers who may be brought into the team at a later stage.

An understanding of the RF environment and experience in using appropriate tools, such as spectrum analysers would be valuable. You will be encouraged to contribute your ideas on process and quality improvement and will use the breadth of knowledge you’ve developed to help identify appropriate technologies to use in new products.
